DAILY REFLECTION

DAILY REFLECTION

MONDAY 2ND APRIL, 2018 (EASTER MONDAY)

THEME: BORN OF GOD
TEXT: 1 JOHN 3: 1-9
MEMORY VERSE: 1 JOHN 3:1 How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him." (NIV)

When a person is born into a family, his or her physical stature, character traits, etc. will normally reflect that of the family because of the gene of the family in him. In the midst of a crowd, you can identify a person as belonging to a particular family -he or she carries the gene and so resembles them in stature, words and deed.

In our today's text, the scripture says "How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!" (1 John 3:1a NIV). We are children born of God, because God's seed remains in us. God's seed here (like the gene in man) produces the nature and character of God in the believer. We shall be like Jesus. The character of God which we will manifest in our daily life as believers are:(i) Righteousness (ii) Holiness (iii) Love (iv) Joy in the Holy Ghost, etc. The believers were first called Christians in Antioch when the people observed their way of life. They noted that the people had been with Jesus. They saw the risen Christ in Peter, John, James and concluded that Christ is living in them.

Those born of God are people whose lives reflect the glory, presence and power of God. They are not ashamed to be called Christians. They carry the image of God and showcase Christ everywhere, every time. They do not continue to live in sin and in disobedience to God. Instead, they live above sin and the world. Verse 8 of today's passage makes it clear that he who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. Whoever you are, clergy, or lay, Church leader or ordinary member, man or woman, if you are still living in secret sins, even when you proclaim Christ in the public, you belong to the devil and you are not yet born of God.

Can I ask you now? Who are you? Will you waste the precious love of God that was lavished for you? Will you waste your years on earth, doing God's work and later end up in hell? The choice is yours to make today.

HYMN: MHB 422 - BLESSED ASSURANCE, JESUS IS MINE

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, I thank you for Your love lavished on me. Help me as Your child to live and overcome sin and the world. Amen.
